It’s getting cooler and crisper. I think we’re blaming Canada on this, although it’s very much in keeping with the season.
It’s October. It’s no surprise that we have to dig out winter wear.

The naming of this convenience store is quaint and exotic.
Considering its location.

Walking around looking for good coffee could be a job, but it’s more like a pleasure trip, especially when the results are so fine.
Two nearby shops offer authenticity both being from coffee countries.
787 is a farm to table sort of place with Puerto Rican origins. (Since there are local outposts of 787 within 10 blocks of each other, I guess it’s more like 3 shops on the UES.).
For a change of pace, I tried the lovely Coquito Latte on my latest descent to the 80th Street location. This is a robust, sweetened brew with a silky finish.
The other place with excellent coffee is Cositas. I enjoyed the drip on 2 visits. Each occasion this was simple and delicious.
My Starbucks diversion has come to an end for now.
Like with 787, there are (more) than a few stores all right in the immediate neighborhood. The staff are pleasant, and it’s a great venue for hanging out. The coffee leaves a lot to be desired, but I do like their Impossible breakfast sandwich.

This gem-filled entryway is bound to stop you as you pass. I didn’t get a chance to study the design, but it seems rather random to me.
Whaddya think?

A triptych of the ridiculously tall structure planned for 79-80 block thru on 1st.
Highlights from 84th between 2nd and 1st include a little well-articulated door to a small house; dormers under a high rise; a row of old brownstones, neatly maintained, and each different; the Zion Lutheran Church stands by a balconied apartment building; a nicely renovated The Wren is just 7 or 8 floors high. There’s a “vintage shop”1 with vintage tees on its rack. A kiosk on the sidewalk in front of an Italian restaurant. The windows of Not A Speakeasy are an attraction I can’t pass without snapping.
The Starr Pavilion extends from its entrance on E 70th in both directions to 525 E 68th Street and over 70th. Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian cover a lot of the ground here on the UES.
Lastly, this purple sky hangs over Roosevelt Island.
