The scenario

Three old guys on the lam are forced into hiding. Their route takes them to this spot. They are tasked with running down these stairs.

You do well to ask why?

What did they do that sent them on the run?

Good questions.

A beautiful day to take to the water. Well, or near it. I grabbed breakfast, Yura’s best-in-the-nabe yogurt parfait, and sat watching this. There were also French tourists.

Look at all this!

I had not been at the big park on the East River Esplanade in at least two years.

Things have certainly changed.

It’s beautifully laid out. The grass attracts the kids whose parents are challenged to find access to it.

There are seats that serve as look out points or picnic areas.

Looking out is the big attraction. See for yourself.

It was occupied by a series of hospital facilities not so long ago. There was a VA facility just under the 59th Street Bridge, which was accessible by an elevator from the bridge walkway.

Once development started, nearly every inch of the waterfront was taken over by bulky apartment buildings.

I am not a student of Roosevelt Island, but I think they were mostly coops. There is a short bridge to Queens on the eastern shore. A tram and a subway line go to-and-from Manhattan. These are met by a bus that circumnavigates the island.

It’s a dense landscape but a pleasant view from the East River Esplanade.
