In the over 50 years, I have lived in this part of town, I never noticed that E 71 was EXIT 13.
For much of those many years, 13 was my exit!

Glorious weather makes everything seem so bright and shiny.

Friendly or neighborly, quiet or brisk, walks give us a different perspective. There is always so much to learn as we step boldly around and about.
We skirt obstacles we never thought would be important. We are greeted by fresh vistas.
Walking is an exploration. Each time we uncover a new path or a place we had not noticed on our last trip.
Every walk is a revelation.
How could I have missed that?
Look here. Look what’s new?

As I passed the corner (York & 82nd), I remembered that I had looked up the connection and the reason for the plaque.
Harper Lee, author of To Kill A Mockingbird, definitely a writer from the South, kept an apartment at 433 East 82nd, which went on the market 6 years after her death. In 2022, it was listed for just over $3100.

Other things I have come to know:
Isn’t it refreshing to think of this tree as a natural redhead? I recently heard or read that the fall foliage we think of as a change is actually a reveal. These are the leaves true colors.

In other closings news, The Meat Ball Shop on 76-77 and 2nd Avenue is no more. This “mail stop” removed itself from 1st Avenue (thus technically forfeiting its name) several years back. It was never customer friendly so I am surprised it lasted this long.
Do not go by my judgment. When this joint opened, with its games and eats, then drinks and games, I questioned its business model. Still standing and expanding!

There is a building close by which adds a glamor to the neighborhood.
It’s angular and furnished with full frontal balconies, which double as fire escapes. Its stucco covering gives it a sunshiny elegance.
