It’s like the East Village of the 60s is in every other storefront.

This is not a construction site, it seems. Demolition is all that’s called for here.

The only remaining Häagen-Dazs store in the City? Could be. I have seen so many disappear. New brands take over like Van Leeuwen.

Flowers are looking late summer lush early this year.

Signage

This is new. There are many signs strewn here and there in the city.

When this one popped up, I muttered to myself, the Soviet Union had nothing on us. It is part of the era of mindfulness in which we find ourselves.

We are tiptoing to avoid hurt feelings, but not averse to a cancel or two.

Will dog owners be offended at the suggestion that dog poop might be objectionable? It’s for the greater good.

None of the many campaigns to have doggy doo removed from underfoot has completely succeeded. We soldier on. The municipal authorities keep trying. Bless them for that.

Speaking of..

Quiet spots

So, yes, it’s a rainy day in my (our) New York. Walking around acquires a patina of peace. My rain jacket gets soaked despite the fact that this is really more of a drizzle. Nonetheless, it’s a good day.

I had the rare pleasure of making my way through the beautifully appointed Cherokee Place Apartments.

My road to coffee took me to a once familiar setting where the Viennese cappuccino is a special.

I sit out of the rain where I will lunch with a BFF. Even my jacket is joining the party by drying out. And, yes, lunch was all it was expected to be.

Quiet spots & city bustle

The Brooklyn invasion is not just on the UES. It’s also at 26th & 2nd.

Deco on 42

The tour ended with lunch al fresco to a jazz fest by the Sylvester Scott Trio. Once the drummer arrives, it will be the Sylvester Scott Quartet.

Sylvester Scott has an ‘art deco’ trumpet.

Playing favorites

What is your favorite season of year? Why?

To paraphrase Oklahoma (the musical) when I’m not near the season I love, I love the season I am near.

Weather plays a big part in how we enjoy our day.

Walking is always pleasant on a 60-degree morning in sunshine. It’s still cool but so nice. These conditions are likely in the Springtime. But they can also be replicated in the Fall.

As we approach December’s chill, I always say another layer will help ward it off.

There is an especially sensuous thrill when the humidity and the heat embrace us. Dressing lightly and let it be hot.
