Not coffee

Exhausted by running along the coffee trail, I finally realized that my best morning cup is the one I make at home. If and when.

Outside is for exotic drinks like my cappucino or a latte or even a flat white. Espresso always makes me shudder, but it’s in a pleasant way, which puts that little treat in the rotation.

It’s my good fortune to have found so many excellent cafes all over town.

My new pastime is to rate the yogurt parfait from various emporia. Yogurt is doctor’s orders; the parfait makes it a treat.

A standout among many plain old good ones is from a little foodie joint on East End Avenue. It’s tucked away and doesn’t always have this or another superb discovery – the no meringue lemon pie- on hand.

When it’s available, the flavor of sour cherries bursts into the yogurt. Not too thick or too sweet, this is a perfect parfait with pumpkin seeds and granola as well as the usual and unusual fruits.

Don’t get me wrong, any and all yogurt “sundaes” make a special breakfast or afternoon snack. There’s even a thing called a berry trio from Starbucks that’s satisfying.
